Course Objectives:

  • To create evolved youth, who will be equipped to contribute in the development of the nation.
  • To train students so as to achieve their physical and mental endurance. To impact basic military training, to develop awareness about the defence forces and exposure learners to military ethos/values.
  • To make students aware of health and hygiene, the protection and conservation of the environment.
  • To hone leadership qualities and risk-taking abilities and to develop life skills.

Course Outcomes: The students will

  • Display sense of patriotism and shall be transformed into motivated youth.
  • Demonstrate the sense of discipline and smartness, overcome fear and inculcate courage and quest for excellence.
  • Be aware of health and hygiene, waste management and pollution control, inculcate officer like qualities and knowledge about the armed forces.

(vi) Take up a career in the Armed Forces and Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board.

UNIT-I

The NCC – Aims and objectives of NCC. Organization & training and NCC song. IncentivesNational integration and awareness- religions, culture, Tradition and customs of India. National integration: importance and necessity- contribution of youth in nation building.

UNIT-II

Drill- General and words of command. Saluting on the march. Formation of squad and squad drill. Ceremonial drill: guard mounting. Guard mounting. Guard of honor. Platoon/ coy. drill.

Instructional practice- weapon training-characteristic of a rifle/rifle ammunition and its fire power. Stripping, assembling, care and cleaning of 7.62 mm SLR. Loading, cocking and unloading- Range procedure and safety precautions.

UNIT-III

Life skills- Self-awareness. Empathy. Critical thinking. Creative thinking. problem solving. Decision making. Communication skills. Coping with emotion. Interpersonal relationship. coping with emotion. Interpersonal relationships. Coping with stress. Disaster management- types of emergencies/natural disaster. Setting up of relief camp during disaster.

UNIT-IV

Social Awareness & Community Development – contribution of youth towards social welfare. Family planning. Drug abuse & trafficking. Civil responsibilities. Cause & prevention of

HIV/AIDS; role of youth. Counter terrorism. Corruption. Social evils viz dowry/female/child abuse & trafficking. RIT. Traffic control org and anti-drunken driving. Provision of protection of children from sexual harassment act 2012. Health & hygiene- hygiene & sanitation (personal & food hygiene). Basic of home nursing & first-aid in common medical emergencies. Wounds & fractures. Introduction to yoga & exercise. Adventure- Cycling/trekking.

UNIT-V

Armed Forces- Basic organization of armed forces. Modes of entry to army and different exams. Honors and awards. Map reading- introduction to types of maps and conventional signs- types of bearing and use of service protractor. Prismatic compass and its use & GPS. Setting a map, finding north and own position. Point to army war heroes- PVCs. Study of battles of Indo-Pak war 1965,1971 & Kargil war.
