National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) was officially started on 24th September 1969 in India to establish a meaningful linkage between the educational institutions and the community. Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, had recognized that the country could not progress in a desired direction until the student youth were motivated to work for the upliftment of the villages/community. In the view of Gandhiji, the villages, where majority of the population living, represent the country. Therefore for the national reconstruction and national resurgence it was deemed fit that the students and teachers should be properly sensitized and utilised for strengthening the Indian society as a whole with particular emphasis on rural community.

The vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation as a movement.

The National Service Scheme has been functioning with the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in service of the people and hence NSS Aims Education through Community Service and Community Service through Education.
