Course Objectives:
- To learn the origin and development of National Service Scheme
- To understand the administrative structure of NSS
- To know the planning and implementation of regular and special Camping activities
- To utilize the knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems;
- To develop personality through NSS
Course Outcomes:
- Understanding the need, importance and Structure of National Service Scheme
- Applying the managerial skills to organize special camp and regular activities
- Analyzing the roles and responsibilities of NSS Volunteers while planning and organizing the programmes
- Shaping the behaviour of the students through community service
- Analyzing the case studies related the community problems
Unit –I
National Service Scheme: Origin and Development – Motto- Symbol-Badge- History of Konark Sun Temple- Mythologies Spokes.
Unit- II
Administrative setup of NSS: National level Advisory Committee – Regional Centers- State level Advisory Committee- University level Advisory Committee, Role of Programme Coordinator- College level Advisory Committee – Role of Programme Officers – Training and Orientation Centers (TOC) – Orientation and Refresher courses.
Unit III
Planning and Implementation: Planning and Implementation of NSS Programmes at the College Level – Training the Students Volunteers- Regular Activities: Conducting regular programmes – Public Awareness Programmes – Adoption of Villages – Day Camps.
Unit IV
Special Camping Programmes : Special Camping Programme themes – Objectives of Special Camping programmes – Preparation of Special camp activities – Importance of successful special camping programmes. Women’s Rights, Women Empowerment and Entrepreneruship Development Programme (EDP).
Unit V
Participation of NSS Programmes by Volunteers : Advantages of Participation -Public participation – Personality Development – Development of leadership qualities – Development of Self Confidence – Improvement of skills – Improving social service attitude –Creation of public Assets.
Youth Red Cross Society – Nehru Yuva Kendra – Red Ribbon Club – Eco Clubs – Youth Programmes in India – Republic Parade and the role of students – Health and physical fitness, Indira Gandhi NSS Award. Waste Management, Water, Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting.
