I. CIA Component of UG programmes for Part I, II and III

Evaluation Pattern Assessment Procedure

  1. The complete academic performance of a student is evaluated by Internal and External
  2. In the case of practical / project work an External Examiner shall be nominated for evaluation / viva
  3. The student’s performance in each course, in general, is evaluated based on in-semester assessment and end semester
  4. The in-semester assessment method is further detailed below:

 CIA (Continuous Internal Assessment) Tests for III year (2013-2019 batch)

Evaluation of student’s performance for the theory and practical part includes two components:

  1. Internal Assessment (25% of marks for theory and 40% of marks for Practical).
  2. External Examination (75% of marks for theory and 60% of marks for Practical).

1. CIA (Continuous Internal Assessment) Tests

Every semester, three CIA tests for each paper are conducted.

The ratio of internal and external break up and the minimum marks to pass is given below in detail.

This 140 marks are converted into a maximum of 70 marks (A).

Grand total is 70+30 (A+B) = 100 Marks. The mark obtained out of 100 mark is converted into a maximum of 25 marks (i.e. 100/4)

Grand total is 60+40 (A+B) = 100 Marks. The mark obtained out of 100 mark is converted into a maximum of 25 marks (i.e 100/4).
Assignment / Seminar: One Assignment / Seminar for each paper must be submitted / presented by a student in each semester. The marks allotted to this component will be awarded based on the performance of the candidate. CIA marks for practical are awarded based on the performance of students in CIA practical test, neat maintenance of observation notebook & regularity and attendance.

i. CIA practical test:

For each practical, students will have one model practical examination. The marks obtained in the examination will be appropriately converted into marks for the CIA component of the practical.

ii. Observation notebook maintenance & regularity:

The marks allotted for observation notebook maintenance & regularity is based on the performance of students in writing procedure, accuracy of the results, regularity in attending practical class, which will be accounted based on the attendance maintained separately for practical class, and punctuality in the submission of observation notebook.

iii. Marks for Attendance (common for both Theory & Practical):

Every student should earn a minimum attendance of 75% to become eligible to appear for End-of-Semester examinations. The 10 marks allotted to these components under CIA of theory and practical will be awarded as given hereunder.

2. External Examinations (End of Semester Examinations)

  • A semester consists of 90 days excluding the End-of-Semester Examination days.
  • End-of-Semester Examinations for all subjects taught in a semester will be held at the end of the semester.

Eligibility to appear for the End-of-Semester examinations

A candidate will be permitted to appear for the End-of-Semester examinations for any semester if he secures not less than 75% of attendance in the working days during the semester.
