Department Profile
The Department had its inception in the year 1975 with Community Development specialization with the commitment to serve the society. It was under the conspicuous attention of our founder Dr. T. S. Avinashilingam Ayya and was nurtured with his great ideas and advices. Twelve years later, in 1987, the Human resource Management Specialization was introduced. M. Phil programme was introduced in the year 1996 and Ph. D programme in the year 2001. Thirty five M. Phil and twenty five Ph.D candidates have obtained their research degree.
The Department has a long standing 47 years of service to the society and student community. Many of our alumni are occupying prominent positions in various fields. The students are preferred by many industries and non-government organization for placements.
The Department believes in the “Development Model” to promote the quality of life of people by concentrating on contemporary social issues. It is exemplified by extension activities, seminars, workshops that we take up for the welfare of the under-privileged. We continue towards reaching the un-reached.

The Department was ranked 20th in National level, 5th in State level and 1st in District level among Social Work Discipline by India Today – Best Colleges Ranking 2021.
